Estradol Introduction
Estradiol is the most dominant estrogen of a group of endogenous estrogen steroids, which includes estrone and estriol. In women estradiol is responsible for augmentation of the breast and reproductive epithelia, maturation of long bones and growth of the secondary sexual characteristics. Primarily the ovaries produce Estradiol with secondary production by the adrenal glands and conversion of steroid precursors into estrogens in fat tissue.

Estradol treatment and Pharmacy Information

In men estradiol does not play a function as important as it does in women, though men also have a small amount of estradiol in their bodies. The amount of testosterone that men have typically does not allow Estradol to have any considerable physiological effects on the body. If the amount of estradiol compared to testosterone increases, then men can see certain symptoms such as wieght gain especially in the midsection, development of enlarged breasts (gynecomastia), decreased sex drive, and many of the signs of low testosterone.

Generic Information

Estradiol is necessary for maintaining normal female functions and is normally produced by the ovaries. After menopause, the ovaries decrease their making of this hormone. Estradol can help relieve symptoms of the menopause and also helps to prevent the onset of osteoporosis. It is generally believed that the rise in estradiol is the factor, which causes LH release. Following ovulation there is a drop in estradiol followed by a second rise, which corresponds with the development of the corpus luteum. Generic Estradol patches are available for some products. To determine if a suitable generic product is available for your particular Estradol patch brand, discuss options with your pharmacist.
